FAQ

More about SingYoTM!

Is there a medical basis for SingYo’s benefits?
"Brain research shows that singing with movement integrates the parietal and temporal lobes of the brain and creates a sense of well-being," noted neuropsychologist Dr. Bolea explains, and "SingYo
TM does exactly that.”

Leading wellness expert and author, Dr. Sandra McLanahan, adds, "SingYoTM is good for the body, mind, and spirit.  It's not only good medicine, it's portable."

What is SingYoTM?
The joy of singing + the peace of yoga = SingYo. Because a key to beautiful singing and beautiful yoga is the relaxed control and discipline of the breath, by doing them together, the benefits are greater than doing them individually.

Where did this technique originate?
It all started with a request of a yoga teacher whose class I was taking. After class, he said he really wished he could chant and sing and asked if I could teach him how. Instinctively, I told him to get on the yoga mat and start a pose. While singing and doing yoga at the same time, he lost his self consciousness and he found his voice.

Is this an age specific activity?
It's not an age specific activity. Any age can do SingYo
TM. Children love to sing and often do Yoga Poses without even realizing it so it's a natural for them. Adults are surprised at how much fun they have and that they lose their self consciousness.

What are the advantages/benefits?
The benefits are that SingYo
TM integrates brain function and neural networks. SingYo helps people feel joyful. People get in shape without being stressed out. It helps people transform the way they feel about themselves. People who were told they could not or should not sing easily find the song in them. People who already love to sing find new ease and confidence in their voice and yoga.

Where are regular classes taught?
Classes are offered at Willow Street Yoga in Takoma Park, Maryland, Spiral Flight Yoga in Georgetown, and Waterside Fitness in DC. Check the schedule for these studios. Arrangements are being made for other fitness centers and yoga studios. Private sessions are also available.
